If you love design, buildings, engines, machines, structures and finding out how things work, then engineering subjects are for you. There are lots of careers to consider within the 4 main branches of engineering:

  • Chemical engineering—mineral extraction, petroleum engineer, process and manufacturing design, and pharmaceutical production
  • Civil engineering—design of the building of transport systems, utility supplies, airports and railways and structural testing
  • Electrical engineering—electricity generation and distribution, installation, control systems, communication networks and computer system integration and control
  • Mechanical engineering—mining, oil and gas engineers, robotic devices, automation, process plant equipment design and manufacture, aviation and aerospace

Engineering study requires a sound knowledge of mathematics and physics, as well as potentially chemistry and biology, depending on your career aspirations.
