Queensland Government schools—driving opportunity, developing future leaders
Like many international students, Muychou was anxious about studying in a new place, making new friends and getting to know her teachers and the community, particularly as she was beginning to learn English. However, the warm welcome and support she received from teachers and fellow students at
Rochedale State High School gave Muychou a great start for success.
As well as becoming a student leader at school, Muychou was selected to represent her local community, the Waterford Electorate, in a Queensland Youth Parliament program.
’My last year at Rochedale State High School was the most wonderful year where I first started working with communities and learned to step out of my comfort zone to explore the world and people around me,’ she says.
This, and the academic support she received at school, prepared Muychou for her undergraduate studies at Griffith University and postgraduate study at Queensland University of Technology. At the same time, Muychou used her experiences to help other students.
‘Each chapter of my life’s journey has given me new experiences and opportunities and has helped me to discover my strengths and weaknesses.
‘Coming to Australia was the right decision for my family to choose for me because I feel so welcome, safe and excited to be part of this diverse and multicultural country, especially to learn and share experiences, knowledge and culture within the community and with my peers.’
