It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Tropical North Learning Academy Smithfield State High School. It is a privilege to be the Principal. We achieve quality outcomes, offer an extensive range of curriculum subjects, and strive to see every student succeed.
We operate as an Independent Public School and through the Tropical North Learning Academy work closely with our feeder Primary Schools, in particular Trinity Beach State School, and with James Cook University.
We are proud to offer an Accredited International Student Program as a member of the Queensland Schools International network and currently are host to students from many parts of the world.
We have a proud record of students achieving high academic success with over 30% of our Year 12 leavers entering University. We also see many of our students achieving Vocational awards moving to successful career pathways.
We offer a caring and supportive environment for all our students. We will not shy away from our responsibility to look after and develop positive, active, thinking young people who understand the importance of being “global citizens”.
I hope you enjoy browsing our web page. I am confident you will find Smithfield State High School a great school!
At Smithfield State High School we are proud of our history of outstanding educational outcomes for students.
Our unique partnership with James Cook University (JCU) and Trinity Beach Primary School provides an uninterrupted pathway from primary school to university.
Our JCU Learning Academy programs provide a pathway for students who wish to attend university.
Our comprehensive curriculum also offers pathways to success and opportunities to develop 21st century skills.
We are located in the beautiful Northern Beaches area of Cairns, approximately 15 km from the centre of Cairns.
Homestay* enables EQI students to truly experience Australia's famous lifestyle.
By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment. International students often develop lasting friendships with their homestay families.
Standard Homestay fees have been set and these are listed on the EQI program fees page.

* Students enrolled in Primary School must live with a parent or close relative as defined by the Australian Immigration Regulations.
