Welcome to William Ross State High School. 

Our school is an innovative academic school with an extensive range of curriculum providing high quality learning with a strong student support program. 

William Ross delivers opportunities for international students to experience success and achieve productive outcomes across academic studies, cultural events and sporting activities.

William Ross State High School is located in the tropical city of Townsville—gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Our world-class facilities include an aquaculture hub, industrial trade centre, a laser equipped design lab and commercial grade kitchens with a fully functioning café. We value academic excellence and vocational pathways.

Our school motto is 'Success through commitment' and we offer a diverse range of learning opportunities in a supportive welcoming environment with opportunities in the classroom and beyond. Field excursions include camps to local tropical islands and across North Queensland, with experiences of snorkelling with turtles, discovering Indigenous culture, and other events such as the Human Powered Vehicle competition.

Homestay and accommodation

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment.

Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities.
