Principal's welcome

A warm welcome awaits you at Stretton State College. We are a Prep to 12 College committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community. Today, the world-at-large continues to beckon as our students take their energy, curiosity, and creativity beyond the classroom walls in order to change our world for the good.

Yet, Stretton is more than a school. We pride ourselves in being like an extended family of learners embraced by a strong values base. The Stretton SPIRIT values of Sincerity, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility, Integrity and Thoughtfulness, are evident throughout our entire community. A Stretton education is an experience comprised of our mindset, our people, our programs, and our campuses. All of us develop our own intellectual agency within an ethical community that fosters open inquiry, builds character strengths, and creates lifelong learners.

There is no one Stretton archetype. There is no one Stretton experience. Our students speak over 75 different languages and we are very proud of our multi-cultural community. Our diversity gives us our strength. Stretton students have multiple interests—Italian and drama, science research and STEM initiatives, entrepreneurship and individualism. They learn how to be a part of diverse teams and how to engage with local and global communities.

With a proudly progressive and diverse reputation, we are recognized as a welcoming, inclusive community where students from all walks of life and backgrounds learn and achieve together. With such diversity, our students leave the college with not just one friendship group but instead many across different interests and year levels. Our strong school community extends to supportive families, wonderful staff, Parents' and Citizens' Association and our valued network of alumnae, who continue to come back to the College to mentor and inspire our students.

Character strengths enable us to tap into our potential and develop perspective, self-knowledge, and empathy for others. Stretton focuses on 10 strengths: gratitude, curiosity, grit, optimism, integrity, self-control, zest, empathy, kindness and love of learning. These concepts are part of the culture of the school and the conversation between students and their teachers, coaches and all staff. We see that when students can approach learning with open-mindedness, curiosity, and intellectual humility, they become better listeners and thinkers.

The Stretton student remains at the heart of everything we do. Along with our extensive subject choices, our large and varied range of co-curricular activities enables Stretton students to make choices unhampered by stereotypes. With an enormous variety of available sports, Sports Excellence programs, and a wide range of orchestras, ensembles, choirs, committees and clubs on offer there is sure to be something to ignite each student’s passion. If our students want to form a group or club that doesn't already exist, we have the resources and staff to guide them and make it happen.

Our staff are passionate, supportive and experts in their fields. Stretton fosters an environment of lifelong learning through ongoing professional development programs to ensure that our staff are continuously growing and building on their knowledge and skills.

We look forward to welcoming you into our wonderful Stretton family of learners.
