Principal's welcome

Welcome to Malanda State High School, a small school in a picturesque location that offers international students a unique and memorable Queensland study experience.

From our position in a thriving rural community on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands, we focus on both academic learning and a range of specialist subjects valued by our students, many of whom live and work on dairy farms and study all aspects of the agricultural industry.

Malanda State High School is a close and supportive school where strong community support and involvement contribute to our outstanding academic success and participation in community events across our region.

At Malanda State High School (SHS), we take great pride in our strong academic values and deep sense of community. Malanda is located on the naturally air-conditioned Atherton Tablelands, 70km west of Cairns, in Far North Queensland. Surrounded by tropical rainforest and World Heritage areas, Malanda is just a short distance to Sclerophyll forests to the west and a daytrip to the Great Barrier Reef to the east.

Our small school is recognised as a place to excel academically and where students also enjoy a rich and regular program of cultural, sporting and social activities.

Malanda SHS invites international students from around the world to experience our beautiful environment with its spectacular natural features, and we welcome the diversity and wonderful input you will bring to our school.

Homestay and accommodation

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment.

Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities.

Holiday adventure programs are an exciting and safe way for students to travel and sightsee during school holidays.

All holiday adventures are fully guided and escorted by qualified teachers and staff to ensure student safety.
