Principal's Welcome

​Welcome to Kirwan State High School. A great school and a good place to be. We are located in Townsville, North Queensland which has a tropical climate with over 300 days of sunshine. Kirwan High is a large diverse school with more than 2000 students. We offer excellent programs including sports, the arts, science and technology. We also have Leadership programs, programs for student wellbeing, school musicals and much more. Our facilities include large sporting ovals, a swimming pool, gymnasium, scientific laboratories, an aquaculture facility and many modern classrooms.

In preparing students to be tomorrow’s citizens, our curriculum is infused with the concepts of international mindedness and intercultural understanding.

​Kirwan State High School is one of the largest in Queensland, and offers an unrivalled range of academic, cultural, sporting and vocational programs. The school takes pride in its strong sense of community and its well-established student support programs and structures. The school is located in Townsville, the administrative and educational hub for North Queensland. Kirwan is a leader in information and technology and science, and has been accredited with the Council of International Schools.

Homestay

Homestay* enables EQI students to truly experience Australia's famous lifestyle.

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment. International students often develop lasting friendships with their homestay families.

  • Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities
  • Host families are carefully selected from within the school community and undergo a police check as required by Queensland law
