Principal's Welcome

​​A warm welcome is extended to you and your family from the Burpengary State School community. Our school has had a tradition of academic excellence since 1876. We work hard to ensure that we are the school of first choice for our local community. We have been an accredited International school for overseas students studying in Australia for over eight years.

At Burpengary, we work together to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Our student-centred learning approach supports all students to excel and achieve to their full potential. Our school hosts an on-site English as a Second Language/Dialect program where trained educators support students in their learning of English. We have a range of extra-curricular activities in the areas of the Arts, sport and technology.

​Welcome to Burpengary State School. Established in 1876, we have a long and proud history of high academic performance, award-winning bands and choirs, and sporting achievement. We are one of Queensland’s larger co-educational primary schools, with an enrolment of over 950 students.

Parents described the teaching as "rigorous and purposeful" during our last School Review, and 99% parents and 98% of students agree that our teachers expect the students to do their best (School Opinion Survey, 2015).

We are proud of our achievements our warm school environment, our rich cultural activities, and excited by our program of continuous school improvement.

Homestay* enables EQI students to truly experience Australia's famous lifestyle.

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment. International students often develop lasting friendships with their homestay families.

  • Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities
  • Host families are carefully selected from within the school community and undergo a police check as required by Queensland law

Holiday adventure programs

EQI Holiday Adventure Programs are an exciting and safe way for International Students to travel and sightsee during school holidays.

There's an EQI adventure to suit every taste - from visiting city landmarks and riding camels on an unforgettable Australian 'outback' adventure, to exploring ancient rainforests and swimming with turtles off Queensland's pristine white sand beaches.

All EQI Holiday Adventures are fully guided and escorted by qualified Queensland Government teachers and staff to ensure student safety. These programs are open to international students enrolled in an EQI high school, and additional fees apply. To find out more visit the holiday programs page
