Cities, regions and lifestyle

Queensland is a big state that offers many different study and life experiences to international students. Whether you choose a city, regional area or the coast, it will be a safe, friendly and welcoming place.

World-class education

In Queensland, we set high standards for our schools and have quality assurance systems in place to make sure our programs for international students are of best quality.

School system

The Queensland school system begins in Prep for children who are 4 to 5 years old and ends in Year 12 when students are 17 to 18 years old.

Choice of subjects

International students can choose from a wide range of special subjects, including boating, engineering, football, golf, hockey, science, STEM, leadership and music excellence. In Queensland you can study subjects not available in your home country.

Academic and career pathways

Queensland Government schools provide high quality learning and excellent pathways to take students through each stage of their education journey, from Prep and primary school, to preparation for tertiary study.

Homestay and accommodation options

The wellbeing of students is our top priority. Primary students must live under the care of a parent or a relative approved by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). High school students may live with a parent or relative or with an Australian host family.

Holiday adventure programs

Education Queensland International (EQI) students can turn their school holidays into exciting Aussie adventures filled with discovery. Holiday adventure tours are a safe way for international students to travel and see Australia.

Ongoing support during your stay

We are here to help you succeed in your studies and enjoy all that Queensland has to offer. This includes helping you to choose your program, plan your trip, your arrival and accommodation, as well as support you while you’re at school.

EQI Alumni association

The EQI Alumni is a group dedicated to helping current and past EQI international students to stay in touch and share their experiences.
