Located just 40 minutes from Brisbane, our school combines the very best of Queensland living, close to beaches, mountains, and a welcoming community.

At Ipswich SHS, students can explore their passions through our high-performance academies in rugby league, dance, and STEM, as well as through creative arts, sciences, and a wide range of academic subjects. We are also one of Queensland’s largest school-based registered training organisations, with more than 30 nationally recognised certificate courses providing real skills and pathways into university, trades and careers.

Our supportive staff, student mentors and homestay families ensure that international students feel safe, valued and inspired. At Ipswich State High School, we offer a wide range of subjects that prepare students for tertiary and vocational pathways. Students can choose courses that include academic subjects such as physics, engineering, chemistry, specialist maths and English, as well as vocational subjects in the areas of dance, hospitality, health, hair & beauty or construction. Year 11 students can study a university subject while at our school through the Head Start Program at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). With so many subject choices and programs on offer, our aim is to prepare you for any career.

Students will be offered individual case management as well as English language support as part of their program. We value diversity and different cultures and this includes the acknowledgement of the traditional land owners.

Homestay and accommodation

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment.

Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities.
