Accommodation and Welfare Procedure

This procedure outlines the roles and responsibilities of employees of Education Queensland International (EQI) and Queensland state schools accredited by EQI (‘schools’) and the steps they follow to:

  • monitor the accommodation and welfare arrangements in place for students enrolled at school  (‘students’)
  • administer the EQI homestay program.

Standard 5 of the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007 (‘National Code’) states that where students under the age of 18 are not being cared for in Australia by a parent, legal custodian or relative approved by the Commonwealth Government department responsible for immigration, education providers must take on responsibility for approving accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements and ensure that arrangements made are appropriate and protect the personal safety and social well-being of those students.
This procedure should be read in conjunction with the Accommodation and welfare policy and the Recruit, assess, approve and engage homestay providers, Initial placement of student with homestay provider, Ongoing monitoring of homestay providers and placements and Exiting homestay provider procedures.
