Can students and their contacts call my school directly?

Yes, schools can still be contacted directly during school hours (normally between 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday).

During the times below all calls must go through the 1800 QSTUDY service:

  • Monday to Friday – before 9am and after 3pm
  • Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) – 24 hours
  • School vacations and public holidays – 24 hours.

ISP schools must have an after-hours message on their landline or mobile number to remind callers to contact 1800 QSTUDY about urgent matters concerning international students.

What does my school need to do?

Schools must make it clear that the 1800 QSTUDY service is only available outside of school hours (normally before 9am and after 3pm on school days) and 24 hours during weekends, public holidays and school vacations.

Schools with international students using the service have been issued with 1800 QSTUDY materials to reinforce the communications about these changes:

  • After-hours emergency information cards for students
  • Customisable letter to homestay providers
  • Fridge magnets for homestay providers
  • An implementation checklist.

Information tools are also available for students, families, homestay hosts and other stakeholders, including frequently asked questions (FAQs) published on the EQI website.

Schools using the 1800 QSTUDY service must record an after-hours message on their landline or mobile number to refer urgent international student issues to 1800 QSTUDY.

School staff may be asked to check the names of people listed as authorised contacts for international students on One School. Student information cannot be released without authorisation. It may be necessary to update the student's authorised contacts if the appropriate permissions are obtained.

Schools can complete the school checklist to ensure everything is completed in readiness for 1800 QSTUDY implementation.

Is training support available to ISP schools?

Training is available to all schools using the 1800 QSTUDY service.

To enquire about training, please contact EQInternational@qed.qld.gov.au or call 1800 316 540.
