Welcome to Centenary Heights State High School. Since opening our doors in 1968, our school has grown into one of the leading co-educational state high schools, proudly serving the Toowoomba community and the wider Darling Downs. Located in the heart of this beautiful region, Centenary Heights is recognised for its strong academic foundation, excellence programs, a culture of care, and an outstanding reputation built over generations of student success. A leader in global education since 1991, our school was the first in Toowoomba—and among the first in Queensland—to welcome international students and create a truly international learning community. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, on stage, or within our local community, our students embody our values of Safety, Respect, and Learning. I invite you to discover the spirit of Centenary Heights – a school where tradition and innovation combine, and where every student is supported to thrive and to create a successful future. Hi! My name is Alice and I’m from Brazil. I’ve been studying at Centenary Heights for one year. I chose to come to Australia because it’s such a safe country full of opportunities, I chose Toowoomba because it’s where my aunt lives, and my family and I chose Centenary Heights because it’s one of the best schools for international students. The buddy program and my mentors here have helped me so much to adapt. They were always there for me, and that support was really important, especially in the beginning when everything felt new and challenging. The school International program provided international students with One-to-One academic tutor every week and the tutor helped me with my understanding of subject content as well as supporting me with our assignment and preparing for the exams.    I had the opportunity to help some other Brazilian students who came to the school this year, and it was a very good experience because they didn't speak English very well, and I was there to help them. It was great because I could see their progress here and the experiences they had as well. Australia is an amazing country with a really fun culture. I’ve tried Australian food like Vegemite (which I’m not the biggest fan of) and Tim Tams, which I absolutely love! I’ve also gone on school excursions to Sea World and Springs Bluff, and with my homestay family (my aunt and uncle) we’ve travelled to Melbourne, Sydney, and some beautiful beaches here in Queensland. When I first started at CHSHS, I was nervous and didn’t know much English. But with the help of my mentors and friends, I’ve grown so much and made friendships that I’ll always remember. Now that I’m graduating, I feel a bit sad to leave, but I’m also really grateful because this year has been one of the best experiences of my life and I’m gonna miss it so much.
