Tannum Sands is a township of 10 000 people, located on the coast of Central Queensland. Queensland is one of the six states of Australia. The capital is Brisbane. Tannum Sands is situation 600 km north of Brisbane. We have a beautiful beach and lots of walking and cycling tracks. Gladstone, a major port and industrial city, is twenty minutes drive away.

Tannum Sands State High School was established in 1998 and has gained a reputation for quality in our district. We have a Sister School relationship with Saiki City in Japan and we have hosted many exchange students over the years. Our students are keen to support our International Student program.

Tannum Sands State High School has excellent, modern facilities, an extensive curriculum and a wide range of sporting, artistic and cultural programs. Our students are friendly, the community is welcoming and we have a great mix of young and experienced teaching staff. ​Tannum Sands State High School is located in the dual township, Boyne Island–Tannum Sands, of 10,000 people, adjacent to the beach. The school was established in 1998 and has a modern outlook with excellent facilities. The school has a supportive and friendly community with strong academic performance. There is a focus on excellence in sport, the arts, leadership and vocational education. The key school values—showing respect, demonstrating responsibility and seeking excellence—are modelled by students and staff. The diversity and richness which international students bring to the school community are highly valued.

Homestay* enables EQI students to truly experience Australia's famous lifestyle.

By living with an Australian host family international students become part of the local community and have a fantastic opportunity to practise their English in a safe and caring home environment. International students often develop lasting friendships with their homestay families.

  • Students have their own bedroom with study facilities, three meals a day, and access to transport to and from school, and to school activities
  • Host families are carefully selected from within the school community and undergo a police check as required by Queensland law

Holiday adventure programs

EQI Holiday Adventure Programs are an exciting and safe way for International Students to travel and sightsee during school holidays.

There's an EQI adventure to suit every taste - from visiting city landmarks and riding camels on an unforgettable Australian 'outback' adventure, to exploring ancient rainforests and swimming with turtles off Queensland's pristine white sand beaches.

All EQI Holiday Adventures are fully guided and escorted by qualified Queensland Government teachers and staff to ensure student safety. These programs are open to international students enrolled in an EQI high school, and additional fees apply. To find out more visit the holiday programs page
