Yu: Hello, My name is Yu. I'm from mainland China but I'm very happy to study and live in Queensland. This is Townsville in Australia, a beautiful city by the sea. Living in Townsville really makes me feel happy every day. All the lovely people here, everyone here, are just so friendly they are so nice. I came to townsville in the beginning of 2019 and started my school life in Pimlico State High school. I have a very lovely friends group at school. We hang out together, have lunch together, they give me lots of courage. Good morning Miss. How are you going? Georgia: When Yu came to Australia she had no English. She couldn't speak a word English she couldn't read it, she couldn't write it. It's amazing how her English has improved so much in just two years. Now she's out there winning public speaking competitions. She's really changed. She's really found a light and she's found her voice. Yu: Before I was a very shy person. I don't feel comfortable to talk in front of everyone, but now I feel confident. Georgia: Yu is just a bundle of smiles. She is the happiest, most bright, entertaining student I have ever met and she's always happy to say yes to everything. While our students are here in Townsville we like to take them into many places weekend so some of our favorite places include the Billabong sanctuary, where you get to see the students seeing the wildlife of the first time. Teacher: Some these animals have been on this planet for more than 250 million years. Yu: I have never seen a crocodile the real crocodile before. It makes me feel that I opened another door to the world I have never known before. Georgia: I think Townsville is a standout destination because we've got so much. We are right on the beach, but we've also got the Outback for them. Our students get a bit of both. They can go to the beach. They can go to the rainforest. There's just so many opportunities for them to do different things. Scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing. Yu: My favorite thing is to do is sailing. We will sell to Magnetic Island and have a picnic there for lunch and take some photos, swimming, snorkeling and sail back makes me realize that life can be so amazing. So brilliant. My home stay family or they are angels angels for me. Homestay parent #1: We have like fun with her. You can ask her how's school. How's your day? We learn from her and she learned from us I hope. For us, she's like having another daughter. Homestay parent #2: She's like a daughter to us now. Homestay parent #1: We are like a complete family. Yu: Coming to Townsville to become an international student here has changed my life. Totally changed my life. Townsville is like my second hometown already. I can summarize it in three words opportunity, surprise and happiness.
