I think Queensland and UQ (University of Queensland) in particular has a very vibrant research environment. Animated title: Study in a Queensland Government Schools Right now I’m in my second year of a PHD and I’m absolutely loving the research that I’m doing here. I love going to the lab every day and just solving the problems that popup. My PHD project focuses on genetics of breast cancer and more specifically we are looking at a group of genes called the jumping genes and how they can contribute to the development and progression to breast cancer. Here we have researchers who are willing to share their experiences with post-graduate as well as under-graduate students. Even when I was an under-graduate I had the opportunity to work in a real lab and work on my own projects. Title: Clara completed Years 11 and 12 at Cleveland District State High School. So in high school I did both chemistry and biology and in both subjects I had the opportunity do a lot of practical experiments and show me what science was really about. My favourite thing about Queensland is the diversity here. The diversity is reflected in its multiculturalism the wide range of cultural and social events happening here every day. For those of you who are thinking about studying in Brisbane, my top three pieces of advice would be, Frist – don’t be afraid of asking for help – People here are very friendly and are always happy to help. Secondly – don’t be afraid of trying new things – always try and make new friends and try new sports every day. Lastly, try and expand your social network – it is common to feel lonely or isolated when you first arrive but don’t feel like you have to deal with this by yourself. The networks that you established here not only help you grow as a person but also will help you in your future career.
